I started hosting in 2013. Short-term rentals were still a side hustle, Kelowna's downtown skyline was three towers shorter, and I was doing every turnover myself. For nine years, I hosted my own units the way I'd want to be hosted: handwritten welcome notes, the recommendation that became the highlight of the trip, responsive support whenever a guest needed it.
In 2021, I formalised it as Lake Life: a Kelowna property management company for fellow owners of properties eligible for short-term rentals who want the same consistent, professional standard for their unit. The following year, Kelowna recognised it on the Top 40 Under 40. We take a small number of new properties each year. That's how we keep the standard intact.
