Short-term rental licensing in Kelowna and the role Lake Life plays. What we send reminders for, what stays with the owner, and where to find the official sources.
Operating a short-term rental in Kelowna requires a current City of Kelowna business licence, registration on each platform you list with (Airbnb, VRBO, etc.), and the property itself being STR-eligible under local zoning and strata rules.
For owners we work with, we send timely reminders when your STR licence is approaching renewal, when your platform-side registrations need refreshing, and when local rules change in a way that affects you. We help you understand what's required.
The licence itself is held by you, the property owner. Application, payment, renewal, and submission of any required documents are the owner's responsibility. We don't act as a licensing agent or file paperwork on your behalf.
For the current City of Kelowna requirements and to apply or renew, use the city's official page: kelowna.ca/business-services/permits-licences/short-term-rentals ↗. For provincial STR rules introduced in 2024, see the BC Government's short-term rental accommodations site.
Even when a property is in a STR-licensed area, individual strata corporations may restrict short-term rentals. We work only with buildings whose bylaws explicitly permit STR operation. If you're unsure about your building, ask before purchasing.
